Wow, it is already Thursday; the days are flying by! Today, we sounded out words in our workbooks, counted to 100, made groundhog puppets, and stayed inside for recess. We had a nice long talk about staying above the line and showing respect to everyone in our class. February always gets a little tense for the children. I have noticed this since my first year teaching. The kids start to feel a little cooped up and need time outside! The good news is that Spring will come soon and we can all enjoy the nice weather! Tomorrow we have reader pals.

Whew! What a day! The kids really worked hard on counting to 100 in math. We also read a new take home book called "We Have a Band". They only struggled with the word 'trombone' (and I think we can cut them some slack on that one)! We talked a lot about "Not sweating the small stuff" in our class. Our class really got frustrated with each other when someone didn't follow directions. I just try and remind them to not sweat and let me be the teacher. We went to computer lab today and had some yummy fruit snacks in the afternoon.

Today was a bit of a crazy day. We got a lot of things done, such as reading worksheets, counting to 100, penguin art, and snowman windsocks with our reader pals. The children, as a whole, seemed a bit tired and frustrated with each other. I explained that we all have tired or even cranky days, but we have to be sure that we are respectful at the same time. We all have those days, don't we?!

As your children may or may not have mentioned, I was unable to attend school today. My son, Gus, needed to stay home because of the flu. I will be back on Friday. The plans I left for the sub were to sound out words in reading, count by 5s and 10s in math, make a penguin art project, and go to the computer lab. If there are no comments on your child's daily chart, I will update it tomorrow. Thanks!

Thursday the 23rd
What a great day! The kids started learning about our new behavior plan called Above the Line, Below the Line. They did a fabulous job and we had a great day back after a long break. We sounded out words in reading, counted to 100 in math, and checked out library books. The book we read today was "A Penguin Pup for Pinkerton". A dog named Pinkerton tries to care for a football, which he thinks is a penguin egg. Ask your child who cares for the Emperor Penguin eggs, the mom or dad.
